People Will Still Be Talking About It Days After Your Wedding

Wedding Centerpieces

Wedding Centerpieces

Wedding centerpieces set the mood in a wedding reception.  They are also good conversation starter especially if your guests do not know each other at the table.   Wedding centerpieces may not be the “center of attention” in the wedding reception. They do complement the bride, the bridal party along with the other elements of the wedding.

One thing to keep in mind is to avoid having centerpieces too high in height as this will block your guest’s view.  Traditional centerpieces involve having a tall vase filled with flowers.  Today’s trend in floral arrangements tend to be lower in height consisting of floating flowers and candles.  This adds warmth to the table. Check with your wedding reception hall or catering service to see if they provide the wedding centerpieces.  Usually, it’s not part of the package so you will need to take this into consideration when budgeting for your wedding flowers.

Wedding Centerpieces Tips

1. Instead of going with flowers, have you consider going with candies?  Check out our article on candy bouquets for wedding centerpieces for do-it-yourself project.  Besides candies, you can use other items.

2. We have also seen in one wedding where the centerpiece consisted of a medium height clear glass vase filled with colored water containing 3 long-stem pink calla lillies wrapped in 3 large leaves.  What was interesting was the content in the water.  Prior to the guests arriving, some special red gelatin was placed in the water.  Throughout the evening the gelatin expanded to miniature red round pellets that floated in the water.

3. As mentioned earlier, try to avoid having the centerpiece too high or too wide.  If too high, they will block your guests from seeing each other and most importantly, seeing the two of you at the head table. What usually ends up happening is that during the serving of the meals, the centerpieces are taken away.  Keep the centerpieces small enough so that it can remain on the table during the meals.

4. Have the DJ do a game where the winner of each table take home the centerpiece.  Some games could be passing a handkerchief or coin around the table and when the music stops, the person holding the handkerchief or coin is the centerpiece winner.

5. Create a romantic mood by spreading small rose petals around the table.  You can also mix it up with sparking silver specks that you can pick up at party stores.

6. Create a wedding table theme whereby each table will have a different centerpiece arrangement such as a lily table, a rose table, a carnation table, etc.  When the guests arrives, you can tell them where they will be sitting by the centerpiece theme instead of the traditional table number.
