Fun things To Do With Your Wedding Bouquet

Wedding Bouquet Activities

What comes to your mind when you see a wedding bouquet?  Usually it is something that a bride would be holding throughout her wedding day.  But did you know that there are many things that can be done to enhance a wedding day with a bouquet?  Here are some suggestions:

Provide flower bouquets to the bridesmaids.  This will look great for the photo-session and there are many “fun” poses that can be done with the bride and bridesmaids.

Traditionally, flowers were provided to the mothers of the bride and groom.  Why not order flowers for the immediate family members and relatives (especially for those from out of town)? This will be a nice gesture to make them feel more as being part of the bridal party.

Design the wedding bouquet to contain several smaller flower bouquets. During the ceremony, the bride can then break up the wedding bouquet and give the smaller flower bouquets to some important members of the family such as the grandmothers, fathers and mothers of the wedding couple.  This is a great sign of unity.

7 Alternatives to the traditional wedding bouquet toss

During the reception there is always a bouquet “toss” activity where the bride will throw the flower bouquet over her shoulder to the screaming “single” ladies.  Here are some variations of the wedding bouquet toss:

1. Breakaway Bouquets – Have your florist create a “throwaway” bouquet that is made up of several smaller flower bouquets. Bundled together, it will look like a regular wedding bouquet. Just before the toss, the bride will separate the breakaway bouquet into the individual ones and throw those over her shoulder. This way, more than one single women will receive the bouquets.  You can even tie each wedding bouquets with miniature garterbelts.

2. Single Flowers Toss – Have your florist create a bundle of single flowers. On each flower you can attach a personal note with some fortunes written on them. Then toss those flowers into the crowd. Similar to the above, more than one single women will receive the fortune flowers. Instead of tossing them, you can also hand out the flowers to the single women.

3. “Finnish style” Bouquet Toss – (Finnish tradition). In this scenario, the single women forms a circle around the bride. The bride holds her bouquet in front of her. She is then blindfolded and then turns slowly around when the music starts. The single women moves slowly in the opposite direction. When the music stops, the person the bouquet is pointing to, keeps the bouquet.

4. “Musical Chair” Bouquet Toss – Somewhat similar to the above, the single women forms a circle. The bouquet is then passed between the women when the music starts. When the music stops, the person holding the bouquet is eliminated. This is then repeated until there is only one person left holding the bouquet and that is the winner. Another twist is that when the music stops the first time around, the person holding the bouquet gets to keep it.
5. Combined Bouquet/Garter Toss – If you plan on h.aving a garter toss as well, then both of you can throw the garter/bouquet at the same time. Here you can mix the “single” women and “single” men together. You can put a slight twist to this one by having the bride toss the garter and the groom toss the bouquet.

6. Bonbonnieres/Favors Toss – Instead of tossing your bouquet, you can toss your wedding favors/bonbonnieres. Here you can invite everybody to participate. If there will be many children, you can even toss candies and toys.

7. Others – Give the bouquet to an important person in the family (your mother or grandmother), to the next couple that is engaged to get married next, to the couple married the longest, to your maid-of-honour, to the dancing crowd if you do not want to stop the dancing for the bouquet toss.

If the bride wants to keep her bouquet, she can order an extra bouquet so that one can be given away during the bouquet toss activity.  Alternatively, she can take out one flower from her wedding bouquet before tossing it.
